Washington, D.C. — The 50501 Movement is organizing rapid response protests TODAY, April 8th, to demand an immediate end to the War on Iran after so-called President Trump waffled between threatening total annihilation of the Iranian people and a temporary ceasefire. In addition, 50501 is calling for the impeachment of Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and the removal of President Donald Trump for threatening to commit genocide, for ordering and facilitating war crimes, and for being fundamentally unfit to serve in office. 50501 will continue supporting rapid response protests until the war is fully ended.
Whether Trump ultimately acts upon his stated intent to commit genocide, his statements alone are evidence that he should not be in power.
“In a sane country, the President threatening to commit genocide would be removed and arrested immediately,” said 50501 National Press Coordinator Hunter Dunn. “Trump may have backed down, but neither the American nor the Iranian people are safe with him in power. The American people are demanding that Congress and the Cabinet take action to remove President Donald Trump and his Secretary of War Crimes, Pete Hegseth, from office, and we are calling on Congress to pass a War Powers Resolution to prevent Trump from making good on his threats.”
From Annihilation to Abdication
Shortly after 8 AM Eastern time on April 7th, 2026, Trump threatened to commit genocide against the people of Iran, writing on Truth Social that a “whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran refuses to accept his demands. A few hours later, the government of Iran threatened retaliation as more than 70 Congressional Democrats, including Senators Ed Markey and Chris Murphy and Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ro Khanna, and former Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, called for the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office.
Shortly after 6 PM Eastern, Trump announced he had agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran and their 10-point proposal, before accusing CNN of being a “FRAUD [sic]” after they covered the Iranian government’s statement about the ceasefire. This administration has not merely lost the confidence of the American people; per retired Major General Randy Manner, US Central Command is rejecting orders coming directly from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
“Trump claimed that ‘a whole civilization will die tonight,’” said 50501 National Comms Coordinator and veteran Logan Keith. “That is not a war strategy; that is a threat to commit mass murder typed out before breakfast at his golf course. When Marjorie Taylor Greene is the voice of reason in the room, we have completely lost the plot as a nation."
No Trump, No Hegseth, No War
“We must continue to protest to keep up the pressure and demand an end to this unjust war,” said Sarah Parker, 50501 National Partner and Executive Director of the Voices of Florida. “No matter what Trump decides, this administration has kept us trapped in a cycle of destruction and disaster. Instead of lowering prices and keeping our communities safe, Trump and his cabinet continue to be a danger to the safety of our country.”
After the No Trump, No Hegseth, No War mobilization, the 50501 Movement will continue to support rapid response protests to hold this administration accountable during the ceasefire as it prepares for its next national day of action on May 1st: Workers Over Billionaires. The 50501 Movement is joining its partners in the May Day Strong coalition to demand a government that invests in affordable housing, good jobs, and basic needs instead of funding billionaire tax breaks for billionaires and an army of masked federal agents to occupy our cities.
